Story[]
"NEO CITY" collapses in a crimson flame...
Thus, thanks to the work of the righteous ninjas, the Oboro Five Ninjas, evil seemed to have been annihilated. However, no one noticed the presence of an eerie shadow that flickered for an instant among the burning buildings spewing black smoke...
More than two years have passed since the battle in the devil's city "NEO CITY"... The Oboro Five Ninjas, a group of elite young ninjas led by Joe Musashi, have been investigating "NEO CITY", which was destroyed but still has many mysteries. Who built such a crime city and for what purpose, and what is the true identity of the vicious ninja army that overflowed the city? One day, while the Five Ninjas were scattered all over the country to gather such information, they received an emergency report that a ninja village had been attacked. The enemy was a group of ninjas calling themselves the "Five Ninjas of Darkness", who fled with the "Five-Colored Jewels" that had been passed down in the village for generations. The Oboro Five Ninjas immediately began searching for the jewel.
However, Joe Musashi, the leader of the group, Red Ninja, sensed that there was something intentional about this series of events since "NEO CITY", and left the jewel and the "Dark Five Ninjas" to the Blue Ninjas, continuing his investigation. He finally discovered that this was the work of a man called "Black Ninja", who had abandoned the village, become a ninja, and turned to evil. The Black Ninja hated the Oboro Five Ninjas, who had driven "NEO CITY" to ruin, and had plotted to eliminate them and steal the jewel. If that was the case, his friends, who had been split up to retrieve the jewel, were in danger! Musashi ran. He had to meet up with his friends, retrieve the jewel, and confront the Black Ninja.
A fierce battle between ninjas was about to begin.
Gameplay[]
The player begins the game as Joe Musashi (the Red Ninja), whose mission is to rescue his 4 captured ninja allies and retrieve five elemental crystals that were stolen by the enemy and spread across different locations. Similarly to the original G.G. Shinobi, the first four stages can be played in any order and after defeating the boss of each stage, Musashi will be joined by one of his allies, allowing the player to control them as well. Some of the ninjas' abilities are different from those in the previous game. Depending on the stage, the player must use a specific ninja's ability in order to reach the location of the crystal. As a result, some of the stages must be played more than once if the player doesn't have the necessary character yet. When the first four crystals are all gathered, the player gains access to the enemy's main base, where the fifth crystal is being held by the final boss, the powerful Black Ninja.

Reception[]
In 2011, Complex.com ranked it as the 18th greatest handheld game of all time, adding "it was definitely one of the reasons we were Sega fanboys/fangirls back in the day. Why get a Game Boy when you could get THIS?"
